§ Mr. Dempseyasked the Secretary of State for Scotland if he will state the number of not proven verdicts given by Scottish criminal courts in each of the last five years.
Pursuant to his reply, OFFICIAL REPORT, 9th April, 1962, Vol. 657, c. 89, Mr. MACLAY circulated the following information:
1960, there was good reason for thinking that the general line of the motorway would be acceptable and that there would therefore be no fundamental objections to the draft Scheme which would require a public inquiry. The draft Scheme was published in September, 1961. In the absence of a formal objection from the Warmley Rural District Council, this would have allowed a start to be made on detailed engineering design concurrently with the consideration of private objections and the making of the Scheme with such modifications as were practicable to meet those objections. As the whole line is now subject to public inquiry, it is impracticable to proceed further at this stage with the detailed engineering design.
