§ 54. Mr. R. Harrisasked the Secretary of State for the Home Department, having regard to the present level of 157W wages, if he will now increase the maximum allowance from £8 10s. per week to £13 per week payable as compensation to a Civil Defence volunteer sustaining injury while performing duties in a peace-time emergency.
§ Mr. R. A. ButlerThe amount payable under the National Insurance (Industrial In juries) Acts and the Civil Defence Corps (Sick Pay) Warrant varies according to the volunteer's family circumstances, and the figure of £8 10s. a week applies only to a single man. These payments are designed to obviate hardship, and I have no reason to suppose that they are inadequate for this purpose.
