HC Deb 21 December 1961 vol 651 cc184-5W
Sir C. Thornton-Kemsley

asked the Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food what arrangements he is making for the purchase of South African sugar in 1962.

Mr. Vane

The Sugar Board who purchase sugar under the Commonwealth Sugar Agreement will also purchase and re-sell the South African sugar. Pending the introduction of legislation to enable the Board to Act as principles for this purpose under Section 2 of the Sugar Act, 1956, they will meet the cost from funds to be advanced to them from the Civil Contingencies Fund.
