HC Deb 21 December 1961 vol 651 c184W
Mr. Godman Irvine

asked the Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food if he will now arrange for further samples of milk for the Hortvet test to be taken on the farm.

Mr. Vane

The Ministry's officers take samples of milk on the farm either to test for keeping quality or for advisory purposes. It is the responsibility of Food and Drugs Authorities to enforce those provisions of the Food and Drugs Act, 1955, that relate to the adulteration of milk. Many Authorities apply the Hortvet test to samples taken for this purpose, if they suspect that the milk contains added water.
