HC Deb 21 December 1961 vol 651 c172W
Mr. Dempsey

asked the President of the Board of Trade, since the operation of the Local Employment Act, how many applications for financial assistance have been received from firms from Coat-bridge and Aidrie; how many were successful and how many were unsuccessful; what was the value of the total amount involved in the applications; and what was the actual amount granted.

Mr. Erroll

Twelve applications have been received. Six of these applicants were offered assistance, but two of them are not setting up in the district. Of the remaining six, four were rejected and the other two are under consideration. The total amount involved in the applications is about £900,000. I cannot give the amount granted, as to do so might disclose details of the arrangements made with individual firms.
