asked the Secretary to the Treasury if he will publish in the OFFICIAL REPORT a table showing the internal purchasing power of the £ sterling as 20s. in 1914, and then the value for each year since, such value to be expressed in shillings and pence.

Yes. The table below sets out the estimated changes in the internal purchasing power of the £ sterling since 1914. The calculation is based on the cost-of-living index between 1914 and 1938 and the consumer price index since then. Figures are not available on a comparable basis for the years 1939 to 1945.
