§ 66. Mr. Diamondasked the Secretary to the Treasury if he will publish in the OFFICIAL REPORT a table showing the internal purchasing power of the £ sterling as 20s. in 1914, and then the value for each year since, such value to be expressed in shillings and pence.
§ Sir E. BoyleYes. The table below sets out the estimated changes in the internal purchasing power of the £ sterling since 1914. The calculation is based on the cost-of-living index between 1914 and 1938 and the consumer price index since then. Figures are not available on a comparable basis for the years 1939 to 1945.
