HC Deb 09 November 1960 vol 629 c57W
90. Mr. Grimond

asked the Postmaster-General if he has re-examined the system of rental charges in remote areas; and if he will take steps to reduce these charges which involve a total quarterly payment of £6 10s. for an essential telephone 16 furlongs outside the 3-mile area.

Mr. Bevins

I have looked at this problem on several occasions but, as the present charges barely cover the cost of keeping these telephones in working order and make no contribution to their heavy initial cost, I am afraid I cannot agree to reduce the charges.
