HC Deb 09 November 1960 vol 629 c49W
Mr. Iremonger

asked the Minister of Transport what conclusions he has drawn from observations of the effect of the experimental traffic signals at Gants Hill roundabout, Ilford.

Mr. Marples

These signals are reducing delays at peak periods. The Road Research Laboratory experiment is still going on and any further adjustments to the signals which may prove desirable should lead to even better results.

Mr. Iremonger

asked the Minister of Transport what has been the outcome of his review of traffic conditions and road safety since the closure of the gaps in the central reservation in Eastern Avenue, Ilford, between Gants Hill and Ley Street; and what changes he proposes to make in the regulation of traffic along that stretch of arterial road running through a residential area.

Mr. Marples

There has been a reduction in accidents since these gaps were closed but experience over a longer period is desirable. No further changes are proposed for the time being.
