HC Deb 05 May 1959 vol 605 c19W
48. Mr. Hector Hughes

asked the Prime Minister what analyses have been made, and with what results, to ascertain the degree of radioactive fall-out in the seas around Great Britain during each of the last five years; if he will give figures showing the respective degrees of radioactive fall-out present during each of the last five years at different parts of Great Britain's coasts; and how that fall-out affects sea bathers, and fish caught, in British waters.

The Prime Minister

I am advised that the amount of radioactivity in the seas around Great Britain from fall-out is so insignificant as to be difficult to detect. It represents no hazard to health either through sea-bathing or through the consumption of fish caught in British waters.
