HC Deb 05 May 1959 vol 605 cc19-20W
57. Dr. Stross

asked the Prime Minister to what extent there is a linear relationship between fall-out of radio strontium and injury to human tissues; and how far it is now generally agreed that there is not any' threshold dose below which no damage can be sustained.

The Prime Minister

As the hon. Gentleman is no doubt aware, the effect of strontium 90 is to deliver radiation and —since its life in human bone is long—to continue to do so. While the existing evidence does not permit a firm decision as to whether there is a threshold dose, there is no direct evidence that radiation from the minute amounts of strontium 90 in human bone has caused injury to any person.
