HC Deb 26 March 1959 vol 602 cc153-4W
56. Mr. Brockway

asked the Secretary of State for the Colonies whether Mr. H. B. Chipembere, Mr. D. K. Chisiza, Mr. M. W. K. Chiume, or Mrs. Rose Chibambo, were present at the secret meeting alleged by the Governor to have taken place when they were alleged to be elected to fix the date when Europeans and Asians, including women and children, the Governor, and certain British officials, missionaries and certain Africans, were to be assassinated; and if he will charge those alleged to be involved with plotting murder, and will produce the evidence against them in public court.

Mr. Lennox-Boyd

In view of the decision to appoint a Commission of Inquiry, I am not prepared at this stage to add to the matters contained in the Governor's despatch. It is however well known that Mr. M. W. K. Chiume was not present. The question of prosecution is a matter for the Attorney-General, Nyasaland.
