HC Deb 23 February 1959 vol 600 c112W
60. Mr. Grimond

asked the Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs to what extent British policy in the Middle East still rests on the Tripartite Declaration and the Bagdad Pact; and if he will now redefine its objects and methods.

Mr. R. Allan

It seems unnecessary to redefine Her Majesty's Government's basic object of preserving the tranquillity and independence of the various countries in the Middle East. The Tripartite Declaration and the Bagdad Pact represent two aspects of this policy.
