58. Mr. Randall

asked the Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs if his attention has been drawn to Recommendation No. 188, 1959, of the Consultative Assembly of the Council of Europe concerning Hungarian refugees in Austria who wish to settle in a member-country of the Council of Europe; and whether he will give an assurance that no delay will be occasioned to bring about the speedy resettlement of these refugees.

Yes. My right hon. and learned Friend has seen this recommendation and hopes that it can be implemented quickly.

Mr. Knox Cunningham

asked the Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs what action has been taken with regard to Recommendation 192, 1959, on the simplification of frontier formalities, passed by the Consultative Assembly of the Council of Europe on 22nd January, 1959.

I would refer the hon. Member to the reply given by my right hon. and gallant Friend the then Minister of State, on 18th June, 1958, and to my reply on 23rd January last. Action continues along these lines.

asked the Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs when Her Majesty's Government propose to recommend the adoption of Recommendation No. 189 (1959) of the Consultative Assembly of the Council of Europe.

Recommendation No. 189 (1959) which was adopted by the Consultative Assembly of the Council of Europe on 21st January, 1959, is to be considered by the Committee of Ministers' Deputies on 2nd March, 1959. Her Majesty's Government propose to take account of the viewpoints of other Governments before deciding their own.
