HC Deb 09 February 1959 vol 599 cc139-40W
56. Mr. Remnant

asked the Minister of Health to what extent the rents for official houses have been taken into account in negotiations relating to the salary scales of prison officers at State institutions.

Mr. Walker-Smith

The general cost of living is, of course, one of the factors taken into account in salary negotiations, but there is no direct relationship between the rents payable for houses and the salaries received by the nursing staff at the State institutions. The salary scales now in force are those currently in operation in National Health Service mental hospitals plus £110 per annum.
