HC Deb 09 February 1959 vol 599 c139W
57. Mr. K. Robinson

asked the Minister of Health if he is now in a position to announce a change in the arrangements whereby a State Registered nurse reverts to a student nurse's salary while taking her midwifery course.

59. Mr. E. Johnson

asked the Minister of Health if he has given further consideration to the anomaly caused by the rule under which a State-registered nurse reverts to the salary of a student nurse while taking a course in midwifery; and what action he proposes to take.

Mr. Walker-Smith

Yes, Sir. I understand that the Whitley Council has now agreed that registered nurses and enrolled assistant nurses undertaking midwifery training should receive allowances appropriate to post-registration students.
