HL Deb 17 December 1959 vol 220 c626WA
THE EARL OF HARROWBY

asked Her Majesty's Government if canteen facilities can be provided at the British Museum considering the number of people working there throughout the day—many with little time to spare for going outside—in view of similar, and sometimes relatively lavish, provision being available in other such public institutions.

EARL ST. ALDWYN

My right honourable friend the Minister of Works is considering this question, at the request of the Trustees of the British Museum. One difficulty is to find accommodation suitable for this use. It is also necessary to agree what priority the provision of better canteen facilities should enjoy in relation to other urgent needs.
