HC Deb 15 December 1959 vol 615 cc123-4W
46. Mr. Stonehouse

asked the Prime Minister what request he has made to the South African Government for arrangements to be made for him to meet African leaders during his visit to the Union of South Africa.

The Prime Minister

The responsibility for my programme in the Union, as in other independent Commonwealth countries which I have visited or shall visit, rests with the host Government.

47. Mr. Stonehouse

asked the Prime Minister which African political leaders, besides Dr. Hastings Banda, he will be making an effort to meet on his forthcoming visit to Central Africa.

The Prime Minister

My programme in the Federation of Rhodesia and Nyasaland is being drawn up by the Federal and Territorial Governments in consultation. I am sure that I can rely on them to arrange for me to meet all political leaders, of whatever party or race, that time and local circumstances permit.
