Miss Herbisonasked the Minister of Labour if he will represent to the National Coal Board the undesirability of closing any further collieries in the Central East Area of the Scottish Division of the Board, until alternative employment is available for those who will no longer be required in the mines.
§ Mr. HeathI am in touch with the National Coal Board through my right hon. Friend the Minister of Power about the effects on employment of colliery closures. I understand that the Board hopes to be able to offer alternative work at other pits to all miners liable to be displaced by closures in Scotland during 1960.
