§ 79. Mr. Willeyasked the Minister of Labour what factors caused the increase of 803 in the number of unemployed in Sunderland in November.
§ Mr. HeathNearly half of the increase was due to continuing shortage of orders in shipbuilding; there was a seasonal increase in unemployment amongst constructional workers and an appreciable number of men and women not normally in the employment field registered for temporary Christmas employment.
§ 80. Mr. Willeyasked the Minister of Labour the number of unemployed in Sunderland at the latest available date; and the corresponding figures for 1957 and 1958.
§ Mr. HeathThere were 5,749 at 16th November, 1959, compared with 2,319 at 11th November, 1957. and 4,272 at 17th November, 1958.
