HC Deb 29 April 1959 vol 604 cc141-2W
Mr. M. MacMillan

asked the Secretary of State for Scotland what is his latest estimate of the total cost of the North Ford Causeway scheme in the Western Isles; and when the causeway itself is expected to be completed and open to traffic.

Mr. Maclay

The present indications are that the cost of the bridge and road works will be approximately £463,000. This is the amount of the accepted tender, namely, £452,000, less some adjustments and with the addition of fees and the cost of land. There will also be some additional expenditure on the provision of cattle grids.

Inverness County Council hope that the scheme will be completed in the spring of next year.
