HC Deb 11 November 1957 vol 577 c9W
30. Mr. G. Roberts

asked the Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food if he will state how many individual farmers have so far suffered losses from the outbreak of foot-and-mouth disease in Caernarvonshire, the number of animals which have so far been slaughtered as a result of the outbreak, and the basis on which compensation is paid.

Mr. Godber

Some 420 producers have been involved in the outbreak and almost 7,000 animals have been slaughtered so far. Compensation is based on the market value of the animals as arrived at by a professional valuer who is normally familiar with local conditions.
