asked the Minister of Transport and Civil Aviation why, in view of the fact that it is intended to provide A.1 with dual carriageways between London and Newcastle, Statutory Instrument, 1957, No. 366, dated 28th February, 1957, provides for a new bridge over the River Ouse only wide enough for one carriageway.

For the time being, traffic needs will be met in the way I explained in the reply I gave to my hon. Friend the Member for Twickenham (Mr. Gresham Cooke) on 10th December, 1956. At such time as a second carriageway is to be constructed on the new diversion, the present Statutory Instrument will be amended or a new one will be made.
