HC Deb 04 March 1957 vol 566 c1W
2. Sir K. Joseph

asked the Minister of Pensions and National Insurance how the benefit now payable to a widowed mother with three children under the National Insurance Scheme compares with the benefit payable to such a widow at the commencement of that scheme in 1948.

Mr. Boyd-Carpenter

The weekly payment by way of widowed mother's allowance and family allowances in such a case is 91s. 6d. at the present time, as compared with 43s. 6d. in July, 1948. In real terms this represents an increase of 42 per cent.
