HC Deb 04 March 1957 vol 566 c2W
3. Mr. H. Hynd

asked the Minister of Pensions and National Insurance how many Polish resettlement hostels now exist; for how many people they cater; and the annual cost of their upkeep.

Mr. Boyd-Carpenter

The National Assistance Board inform me that it now administers 15 hostels under the Polish Resettlement Act, 1947, accommodating at the end of January, 1957, just under 6,000 residents. The Board's nett expenditure during the calendar year 1956 was about £78,000, in addition to which expenditure was incurred by the Ministry of Works on the maintenance of buildings and other services.
