HC Deb 17 December 1957 vol 580 c31W
Mr. John MacLeod

asked the Secretary of State for Scotland whether he is aware of the need for industry in the Easter Ross area of Ross-shire caused by the closing of the Admiralty base at Invergordon, and the threat of increased unemployment in the area; and what action he proposes to take.

Mr. Maclay

I have been in close touch with the Admiralty and the Board of Trade about employment opportunities in the Invergordon-Tain district, and I hope that negotiations at present in progress with a number of industrial firms will result in the productive use of facilities which have become available owing to the closure of the Admiralty base.
