HC Deb 17 December 1957 vol 580 cc31-2W
Sir J. Duncan

asked the Secretary of State for Scotland whether he is aware that the security of tenure provisions contained in the Agricultural Holdings (Scotland) Act, 1949, operating in conjunction with the Scottish law on bequest of, and succession to, agricultural tenancies, have come close to conferring perpetual tenancy rights; and whether he will introduce legislation to remedy this anomalous position.

Mr. Maclay

Yes, I agree that the present position is open to criticism and I can assure my hon. Friend that the Government intend to deal with this matter in the forthcoming agricultural legislation.
