HC Deb 17 December 1957 vol 580 c27W
38. Mr. Malcolm MacMillan

asked the Secretary of State for Scotland if he is aware of the shortage of dental treatment facilities in the Isle of Lewis; and what measures have been, and are being, taken to provide adequate service in accordance with his statutory obligations under National Health Service legislation.

Mr. Maclay

The county council is advertising for an additional school dental officer for Lewis and a firm of dentists practising in Stornoway is advertising for an assistant. I have authorised the executive council to meet the additional expenditure incurred by any mainland dentists who visit and treat people in Lewis while there is a shortage of dentists on the island.
