Mr. Swinglerasked the Secretary of State for the Colonies on what grounds a meeting arranged to oppose the policy of the Noel Marrier d'Unienville in Port Louis, Mauritius, was prohibited by order of the Governor after the police had been notified of the intention to hold the meeting and no objection had been made.
§ Mr. HareThe object of this meeting, as announced in the local Press three70W days after notification to the Police of the intention to hold it, was to ask the Governor to suspend the publication of a certain newspaper and to deport its Director, Mr. D'Unienville. The promoter of the meeting has been in prison in the past for breaches of the peace and the Governor was advised that there was good reason to expect a disturbance of public order if it were held.
