HC Deb 02 March 1955 vol 537 cc272-3W
71. Mr. Benn

asked the Secretary of State for the Colonies on what grounds Richard Achierg Oneko, who was absolutely acquitted on all charges at the Kapenguria trial in Kenya in 1953, has been detained since then without trial.

Mr. Lennox-Boyd

Richard Achierg Oneko, who was convicted at Kapenguria but acquitted on appeal on the charge of being a member of Mau Mau, is detained on grounds of public security. The Advisory Committee on Detainees, having heard his appeal, has recommended that he should continue to be detained.
