HC Deb 18 February 1954 vol 523 c240W
96. Mr. Renton

asked the Minister of Education whether she will cause an inquiry to be held into the qualifications, salaries, allowances and pensions of assistant masters of grammar schools, with a view to ensuring that high standards of teaching are maintained and that an adequate number of well-qualified assistant masters are forthcoming to meet the increasing needs of such schools.

Miss Horsbrugh

No. I am as concerned as anyone to see that high standards of teaching continue and that theschools, including grammar schools, get sufficient well-qualified teachers but I do not think that a special inquiry such as is suggested in the question would serve these ends.
