asked the Minister of Health the number of people being treated for tuberculosis in England; how many sanatoria there are exclusively for this disease; how many hospitals with separate wards for this disease; and what is the total annual death rate.

The number of tuberculosis beds in England occupied on 31st December, 1952 (the latest date for which figures are available), was 26,957 and the number of notified cases of tuberculosis then on clinic registers was 289,134; the number of sanatoria classified as having beds for tuberculosis only was 182 and the number of other hospitals with tuberculosis departments was 311. The death rate in 1952 was 237 per million living.
