HC Deb 04 February 1954 vol 523 c70W
Sir J. Crowder

asked the Minister of Health why the Acute Rheumatism Regulations, 1953, as laid down in Statutory Instrument No. 1928 of 1953, apply only to the counties, county boroughs and boroughs enumerated in paragraph 2 and not to any other parts of the country.

Mr. Iain Macleod

The purpose of these Regulations, which replaced similar Regulations in force since 1947, is to assess the value of notification of acute rheumatism and of other procedures of medical interest in the prevention and management of rheumatic heart disease. The areas selected for notification constitute a sufficient sample for this purpose.
