HC Deb 15 December 1954 vol 535 c141W
65. Mr. Fenner Brockway

asked the Secretary of State for the Colonies if, in view of the uncertainty in Kenya and this country regarding the responsibilities of different arms of the police and military forces to interrogate Mau Mau suspects and regarding the methods employed, he will appoint a commissioner of legal standing to investigate the position and to report to him on the matter.

Mr. Lennox-Boyd

The Governor has informed me that there is no such uncertainty in Kenya. Investigation is the responsibility of the Police and clear instructions on procedure have been laid down by the War Council. Any breach of these instructions is dealt with as soon as it is discovered.
