HC Deb 14 December 1954 vol 535 cc123-4W
112. Mr. Glover

asked the Secretary of State for War to make a statement on the progress which is being made in the disbandment of the Anti-Aircraft Command.

Mr. Head

Details of the reorganisation are being worked out urgently. This for the Regular component should not take long, but in the case of the Territorial Army more time will be needed because we have to consider the local circumstances of each unit. I know that many hon. Members are anxious about the future of particular units and individual officers and men in the Territorial Army and I would assure them that details will be announced as soon as practicable. I do not, however, want to rush these changes without full consultation and consideration with all the Territorial Army authorities concerned.

Mr. Ian Harvey

asked the Secretary of State for War what steps were taken to inform units of Anti-Aircraft Command of the impending disbandment of the Command; and what guidance has been given to them with regard to their future rôle.

Mr. Head

Previously prepared letters were sent to units as soon as the announcement had been made in this House. A decision on the future of particular units must await the consultations now taking place.
