§ 57. Mr. J. Johnsonasked the Minister of Food Her Majesty's Government's policy regarding the future building of slaughterhossuses.
§ Major Lloyd GeorgeAn Interdepartmental Committee has been appointed to recommend where slaughterhouses should be sited under the policy of moderate concentration which I announced in the House on 5th November, 1952. Local authorities and private interests will be encouraged to build new slaughterhouses at such places as may be agreed.
§ 59. Mr. P. Wellsasked the Minister of Food if he is aware of the difficulties under which animals are slaughtered and inspected at the Sittingbourne slaughterhouse; and what his intentions are to bring about some improvement.
§ Major Lloyd GeorgeThe daily kill is limited to an amount which, in agreement with the local authority, can reasonably be handled and inspected. I am afraid the site does not lend itself to improvement or enlargement of the premises.
