§ Mr. T. W. Jonesasked the Attorney-General if he is aware that the provisions of the Welsh Courts Act, 1942, whereby jurymen are enabled to take the oath in their own language in their own country, are not being universally observed; and what steps he is taking to ensure that the provisions of this Act are invariably carried out when desired.
§ Mr. Gowerasked the Attorney-General what steps he will take to ensure that Welsh jurymen are given their statutory right to take the oath in their native Welsh language within the Principality of Wales.
§ The Attorney-GeneralMy noble Friend the Lord Chancellor is satisfied that the Rules made by him under Section 2 of the Welsh Courts Act, 1942, make adequate provision for the administration of oaths in Welsh. My attention has been drawn to a case in which two persons called for jury service in Wales were required to stand down, but I under-178W stand that it was subsequently made clear that this was not due to their desire to be sworn in Welsh.
