asked the Secretary of State for Scotland how many late applications for grassland fertiliser grants were accepted during 1951 and 1952, respectively; and what were the grounds on which these applications were accepted, giving a detailed list under each head.

The number of late applications for grassland fertiliser grants accepted during 1951 and 1952 was five in each year. The late applications were accepted on the following grounds:

Proof of posting original form produced; duplicate admitted 2
Death of Farmer (application by Trustees) 1
Application delayed by Department's officer 1
Ploughing Grant claim disallowed and alternative Grassland Fertiliser claim admitted 1
