§ 86. Mr. Jannerasked the Minister of Labour how many fires occurred in factories throughout the country in each of the past five years; how many deaths and injuries were involved; and whether he is satisfied that the regulations for dealing with fires are satisfactory, in view of the fact that many factories were built many years ago.
§ Sir W. MoncktonFires involving substantial damage to the structure are few and rarely involve death or personal injury as a result of inadequate means of escape. Figures as to such fires in recent years are not available at Headquarters, but I will ask the Chief Inspector to collect some information on the subject and will communicate with the hon. Member as to the result. There are, of course, numerous occurrences in factories involving risk of burning accidents to some particular individuals, and statistics as to such accidents and occurrences are published in the annual reports of the Chief Inspector.
