HC Deb 24 March 1953 vol 513 cc63-4W
49. Brigadier Medlicott

asked the Minister of Works if he will place a plaque in some suitable position in Westminster Hall to mark the occasion when, on the night of the l0th-llth May, 1941, the right hon. Gentleman the Member for Kelvingrove, together with Mr. Victor M. R. Goodman and Chief Superintendent C. P. McDuell took a leading and decisive part in the fire fighting which saved Westminster Hall from destruction.

Mr. Eccles

Many great events have taken place in Westminster Hall. It is generally agreed that the beauty and nobility of the Hall are in part due to the absence of monuments and decoration. If it is thought fitting to commemorate the valuable services rendered to the Palace of Westminster on the night of 10th May, 1941, a suitable site for a plaque might be found outside the Hall. I should like time to take the opinion of hon. Members on my hon. and gallant Friend's interesting suggestion.
