HC Deb 24 March 1953 vol 513 c64W
50. Mr. Padley

asked the Minister of Works whether, in view of the acute housing shortage in mid-Glamorgan, he will reconsider his decision to use the Pencoed Hostel for storage purposes; and whether he will give orders that the present destruction of good living accommodation for up to 1,000 persons shall cease immediately.

Mr. Eccles

No. The decision to use Pencoed Hostel for storage was made over two years ago, and the accommodation has been converted for the purpose as the hostel numbers have declined. Most of the property is now converted and only 106 occupants remain. Reconversion would be an expensive and uneconomic proposition and new building for storage would be required in addition.
