HC Deb 24 March 1953 vol 513 cc71-2W
74. Mr. Grimond

asked the Secretary of State for Scotland what evidence he has of large herring shoals this winter north of Shetland.

Mr. J. Stuart

Traces of large shoals, believed to be herring, were obtained in the latter half of January, 10 to 15 miles north-east of the Muckle Flugga during experimental asdic trials arranged by my Department. More recently fair quantities of large herring have been landed by white fish trawlers in Aberdeen from grounds to the north-west of Flugga.
