HC Deb 02 March 1953 vol 512 c12W
80. Mr. Paget

asked the Minister of Fuel and Power how it came about that a stick of gelignite was delivered to Mr. W. S. Smith, of 23, Cosgrove Road, Sunnyside, Northampton, in his coal; and what Regulations he has made to ensure that no explosives remain in the coal after it has left the pits.

Mr. Joynson-Hicks

My right hon. Friend is making inquiries about the case to which the hon. and learned Member refers and will write to him. With regard to the second part of the Question, new Regulations governing the use of explosives in coal mines came into force last year; they contain requirements which go as far as seems practicable towards reducing this hazard by statutory means.
