§ Mr. Jannerasked the Secretary of State for the Home Department whether he will consider making available for confidential treatment to Army authorities the records of newly recruited National Service men where such records show imprisonment or delinquency.
§ Sir D. Maxwell FyfeThere is no machinery at my disposal that would enable me to volunteer information to the military authorities about the past records of men called up for National Service except in the case of Borstal inmates who are called up for National Service immediately after completing their Borstal training. As regards them, I have for some time been in consultation with my right hon. Friend the Secretary of State for War with a view to arrangements being worked out which will protect the interests of the Army without prejudicing the interests of the men concerned.
