asked the Minister of Works what progress he has made in reducing the size and cost of running the official car pool.

Mr. Eccles

Since the 1st April last the chauffeur-driven fleet has been reduced by 190 cars and 206 drivers. In addition, certain services previously carried out by cars and drivers in the Service Departments are now performed by the Government Car Service. The reductions represent a saving of over £165,000 per annum.
