HC Deb 19 February 1953 vol 511 c153W
73. Mr. Jay

asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department what compensation is to be made available to those who have sustained loss or damage of houses or farm buildings in the recent floods, where they are not protected by private insurance.

Sir D. Maxwell Fyfe

It would not be possible, within the compass of a reply to a Parliamentary Question, to deal adequately with this point, and I would refer the right hon. Gentleman to the statements made on behalf of the Government in the debate today.

75. Mr. Elwyn Jones

asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department whether he will make arrangements for immediate interim payment to victims of the flood who are now trying to make their homes habitable of sufficient funds to enable them to. purchase such urgent necessaries as coal to dry their homes and floor covering, beds and bedding.

Sir D. Maxwell Fyfe

I am informed that the Lord Mayor of London has made funds available to the Lords Lieutenant of the affected counties for this very purpose.
