asked the Secretary of State for War how many troops were sent from Jamaica to British Guiana after the suspension of the Constitution; what duties they were engaged in; and on what date they left Georgetown for return to Jamaica.

The 1st Battalion, the Royal Welch Fusiliers and supporting services, numbering some 740 all ranks, arrived in British Guiana on 8th October from Jamaica and British Honduras. This battalion returned to Jamaica on 24th October, on relief by the 1st Battalion, the Argylland Sutherland Highlanders. The troops have been employed on guard duty and duties in aid of the civil power.
