§ 132. Major Anstruther-Grayasked the Minister of State, Board of Trade, as representing the Minister of Materials, if he will make a statement of policy with regard to the collection of waste paper; and, in particular, what assistance he will give local authorities in disposing of the salvage they collect in view of the difficulty which they are experiencing in finding a market.
Mr. AmoryThere has been no change in the policy of Her Majesty's Government since it was stated in a reply to my hon. Friend on 20th July last. Consumption of waste paper has risen further since then and stocks are now lower, which should eventually make disposal more easy.
Local authorities must, however, rely upon normal business negotiations with their buyers and not upon direct Government intervention.
