HC Deb 30 April 1953 vol 514 cc116-7W
61. Mr. Janner

asked the Minister of Education to what extent periodic examination of children's bicycles, on which they ride to school, is made; and if she will circularise local education authorities to advise that a regular examination should take place in order to minimise the risks to children on the roads.

Miss Horsbrugh

Except where bicycles are provided by a local education authority, it is primarily the responsibility of parents to see that their children's bicycles are in good order. As a further precaution periodical inspections at school, in which the police might take part, were recommended in my Department's Circular 65, a copy of which I am sending to the hon. Member.
