The average annual expenditure of the Agricultural Departments on account of subsidies (including crop acreage payments) in the years 1940–41 to 1945–46 (inclusive) was £24,250,000; and in the post-war years 1946–47 to 1951–52 (inclusive) was £31,000,000. In the Estimates for the Financial Year 1952–53 the sum of £45,531,000 was provided for agricultural subsidies, and for the current Financial Year £48,577.000 is provided.
