HC Deb 31 January 1952 vol 495 cc43-4W
Mr. de Freitas

asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department how many recruits joined the Civil Defence Corps and Auxiliary Fire Service in the United Kingdom during November and December, respectively.

Sir D. Maxwell Fyfe

In England and Wales during November and December, respectively, 7,678 and 4,657 recruits joined the Civil Defence Corps, and 306 and 207 joined the Auxiliary Fire Service.

I have no personal responsibility in this matter elsewhere, but I am informed by my right hon. Friend the Secretary of State for Scotland and by the Government of Northern Ireland that the corresponding figures for the same months were: in Scotland, 631 and 499 for the Civil Defence Corps and 28 and 21 for the Auxiliary Fire Service; in Northern Ireland, 52 and 78 for the Civil Defence Corps and 16 and 15 for the Auxiliary Fire Service.
